Bring Out Your Dead (Electronics)

We are collecting dead electronic components like motherboards and interface cards to use in a community art project during the Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire. We will exhibit the final work on our wall above our computer equipment at the MakerSpace. Please drop your stuff off at the MakerSpace during the week or bring it with you on Saturday. Watercolor Painting Workshop

Ladies of the WMAS

Join us every other Sunday (check the calendar) for a continuing workshop in watercolor painting. A small donation to pay for supplies and the instructor is requested. Our instructor is Mary Ann Lipovsky, a native born resident of Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Originally she began her art career in the mid ’70’s, going to night school in San Francisco. Wanting to continue her education on a full-time basis she moved back East to study at the MD School of Art and Design, now a part of Mont. College. Presently she shows her works, mainly pen and ink and watercolor, with… (Read More)

Weekend Activities

I don’t imagine too many people stayed inside playing video games over the weekend. We certainly saw a lively crowd at the Roosevelt Center Plaza! If you didn’t stop in at the MakerSpace, you missed seeing our Saturday morning CoderDojo session, our Sunday afternoon Watercolor Painting workshop, our work rebuilding laptops, our project building a replacement for our old TiVo media center, and the meetup to work on our entry in the Labor Day parade. Stop in, you never know what projects we will put you to work on! We have a meetup on Sunday afternoon for folks interested in water… (Read More)

Sunday Arts Program is UP to Recycle

Moose!

(Moose!) Put down that hammer or paintbrush and join us on the afternoon of Sunday, July 19, to take apart and up-cycle components into modern works of art. If you’re more of a de-constructionist, this is also your type of activity. Crack open stuff to see what makes it tick, turn, or burn. Then hand the pieces off to the artist in your family. Short on family members? Come meet others in the community who just might share some of your interests.

Sunday Art with Dolls

Cythia is back to host our monthly meetup, art and general good feelings with “Psychesdolls”, archetypal artistry for Sandplay and Personal Altars. We call them Assemblage Art Dolls. By whatever name, they are easy and fun to make, just 60 – 90 minutes of creative play and you will be in awe of the results. This group meets once a month, on the fourth Sunday at Noon. But you are welcome to stop in at the MaketSpace and explore this and a variety of other creative activities. Here are Our Dolls from last month…   Here are some more creations by Cynthia… (Read More)

Never Too Late for Art

The adults took over the MakerSpace this afternoon, to make dolls and learn the basics of watercolor painting. Our painting instructor, Mary Ann, was very patient with everyone, giving great advice on how to correct mistakes (“blend it in” or “let it stand out”) until folks were comfortable with just working with the materials, letting their creative eye be less judgmental.  While perhaps no masterpiece was created, everyone had a good time and we hope to see everyone back next week. Here are our works of art…

If you have an idea on how to help us expand in this area, please stop in and chat, or send some electronic feedback our way. Thanks! We have two more sessions scheduled, please get more info and reserve a seat here. Some work from the first class…
