Festival Focus: Take it Apart

Caution, some disassembly is required. This warning should come on all gadgets, mechanical or electronic, and should encourage the object’s owner to get every last bit of value from their purchase or gift. Yes, please recycle your junk electronics on April 22nd. But before you just toss it away, stop by the Maker Festival on Saturday to take part in our take it apart event! We’ll be here all day, from 10-4, for you to bring in stuff that you’ve always wanted to crack open. Junk free? No worries, we have lots of, um, supplies! Spring Festival in Columbia

Photo booth, kids’ races, tie-dying, sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting and so much more. Rain or shine. Sunday, 12-6. See the link below for details.

We had a great time at the faire working with Erin and learning about her tie dye activities as well as her greater cause, being “passionate about helping kids be honest about who they are, loving themselves and accepting that they have value.” Check out her spring festival in Columbia MD, a fundraiser to form Colorful Abandon

The goal of Colorful Abandon is to expand kids’ and teens’ growth-mindsets and compassion for self and others.  We are forming a new generation of team-oriented leaders! Tie dye arts will serve as a vehicle and metaphor for this important work.

Want to teach your kids that giving is the best part of life? Join Roll Up N Dye at their spring fair for a day of fun with a theme of giving back. Photo booth, kids’ races, tie-dying, sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting and so much more. Rain or shine. Check out their Facebook page and Website.

(We’re taking a break this year to prepare for our own Mini Maker Faire next weekend.) Just take a look at how much space is being set aside for this event:

Sheep and Wool and Knitting, Oh My!

A sheep at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

Did you miss it? The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival was last weekend… Join Eva and the knitting group tonight, 6 to 9pm, to share stories and hear what you might have missed. Though she spent most of the weekend supporting her friend, owner of Spirit Trail Fiberworks, in her busiest sale day of the year, Eva did manage to get out and see the show. The festival is the oldest and largest of its kind in the country. Eva can also tell stories about the “other” festival in New York state, better known as Rhinebeck, and the semi-exclusive knitting… (Read More)
